We are very excited to announce that on Monday April 20th we launched our brand new website! Over the past few years, Beyond Beige Interior Design has experience immense growth that I am so proud of. Not only has our team gotten larger, but our projects have grown in size as well. We have won awards and participated in so many fabulous events, all the while our website has stayed exactly the same. Finally Beyond Beige has a website that is a better representation of who we are. View all of our projects, learn about our process, and keep up with us on our blog. Hopefully you enjoy our new site as much as we do!

The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show
The second stop for our team in Las Vegas was KBIS, The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. All of us were beyond excited to finally see the product we look at online, in person, and discover products that we never knew existed. It’s one thing to admire a plumbing fixture’s finish and aesthetic. But a completely different thing to have it connected to water and see it functioning. Kohler’s section of the trade show was by far the best. From the sheer size of the space, to the lighting, and set up of their products, they created an experience that stood out. Within the Kohler area was our favourite, Ann Saks. Their metallic tiled bar was my first WOW moment of the entire show. Both their new tile and Kallista plumbing line were incredible.
One of our other favourite stops was the Houzz space. They had a great interactive area set up with computers so that professionals at the event could receive advice right there on the spot. Such a clever idea! Some of our other favourite moments were the new stone from Cambria, the RCH Elegance door and cabinet hardware, and the Walker Zanger tile. Altogether the team learned about so many new products we can’t wait to use in our projects!
The Las Vegas Furniture Market
This past January our entire team traveled to Las Vegas for The Las Vegas Furniture Market as well as The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. Twice a year a few of our staff go to learn all about the new products available, but this was the first time our team got to experience it together. As we expected, some of our favourite companies did not disappoint. The Visual Comfort lighting was stunning. Our team could not get enough of Kelly Wearstler or Ralph Lauren’s lines. In particular a Ralph Lauren over-sized chandelier made of antlers and crystals. If you have never laid eyes on one before, it is definitely worth a Google! Our designers who love the bohemian aesthetic couldn’t wait to get to Ro Sham Beaux showroom. Since our return, they have already chosen a few of their beaded shabby chic light fixtures for some two of our current projects.
Some of the most prominent trends we noticed were rustic wood and rose gold. At previous shows we had seen quite a bit of rustic wood but in the past metals have trended towards gold and copper; so the presence of so much rose gold was interesting. We noticed these touches of rose gold not only in lighting but furniture too. We’re not quite sure we’re a fan of it, but maybe it will grow on us.
The show was full of so many talented people in our industry from all over the world. We saw a lot of beautiful products, met some fantastic suppliers, and gained more product knowledge. All in all it was a fun and informative trip we can’t wait to make again!
The holidays are almost here and our team is very excited! Our office will be shutting down for two weeks over the holidays, so please be sure to contact us immediately with your questions and concerns. We will be shutting down Friday December 19th at 5 pm. We will reopen Monday January 5th at 9 am. Please ensure you have reached us before we shutdown as staff will not be responding to emails or phone messages past then.
Please contact our Office Manager, Cassandra, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 604.846.3800 with your important considerations.
Have a fantastic holiday and a happy new year!
Exclusive Houzz Event
On October 9th our sister company, The Living Lab Furniture Co., hosted an Exclusive Houzz Event. It was wonderful to see so many new faces in their showroom. The evening began with an informative presentation by Elyse from Houzz. She outlined for all of the Houzz ‘Pro’s’ with us that night, how to maximize your account whether you are a beginner or advanced user. Emelles food truck and catering kept all of the guests fed with delicious canapes. And an open bar made for lively networking and mingling.
Thank you so much to all of the guests in attendance. This evening was incredibly meaningful to The Living Lab and your presence made the night unforgettable! Thank you to The Living Lab staff for transforming your space to accommodate us, and the Beyond Beige team for running the event that evening.
We look forward to the next event at The Living Lab!

Gray Conversation Stage
I had never intended to tell the world that I was once a librarian. But after Gray Magazine took interest in my odd past career, it has seemed to take on a life of its own! Not only has Gray Magazine featured it in their publication but so has The North Shore News. Risking a comfortable steady job, for the dream job that you have always longed for is a common story so many can relate to.
At IDS West this inspiring topic was front and center on The Gray Magazine Conversation Stage. Kelly and Chad of Falken Reynolds Interiors joined me to discuss how they took the leap from their conventional jobs into the world of interior design. We shared many fun moments reflecting on our previous careers and the threads of commonality they shared. The audience was full of inspiring interior designers which enhanced the Q&A period, infusing it with valuable information. I think I can speak for Kelly and Chad when I say we are lucky to have found our passion in a considerably more interesting job.
Thank you so much to IDS West and Gray Magazine for allowing me such a fabulous opportunity.

IDS West Opening Night
On September 25th our whole team ventured to the Vancouver Convention Centre for the opening night of IDS West. We were so impressed at what a strong year it was for all of the exhibitors. Our sister company, The Living Lab, has had a booth in previous years. So we know first hand just how much work goes into it. Congratulations to all of the exhibitors for a job incredibly well done! One of our favourite areas, just like so many others, was the Montauk exhibit. What a testament to how sometimes so simple can be so impactful! We also loved the Falken Reynolds designed bar area. Kelly and Chad are very deliberate with every aspect of their design. Our team was fascinated with every detail’s contribution to their vision. We can’t wait to return next year to see all of the new and notable designers showcased.
Cantu’s Exclusive Designer Event
This fall, Cantu and Fantini hosted the most luxurious affair. An evening of mingling and dinner at Black & Blue for an exclusive group of interior designers. Beyond Beige’s Project Manager, Cassandra, and I felt honoured to be invited. The evening was educational and inspiring as the Fantini Group explained just how their family business is run. Their passion for charity was uplifting. The Fantini group are dedicated to provide clean drinking water to some of the poorest areas. Cassandra and I left buzzing with possibilities of how we could help. Thank you Cantu and Fantini for such a classy evening!
Western Living Designers Of The Year
For the first time, the Beyond Beige team attended the Western Living Designers of the Year Event. It was held in Richmond at the London Aviation Centre; a grand and unexpected venue. I was honoured to be nominated in the category: Robert Ledingham Memorial Award For An Emerging Interior Designer. The award was given to Saskatoon’s Atmosphere Design. A firm we very much respect, whose work we admire. Their attention detail and individuality they give each space, definitely merits this acknowledgement. It is always fabulous to have our whole team attend these events together. Western Living threw an original evening we hope to attend next year!
From Research To Redesign
Three years ago when I moved Beyond Beige and The Living Lab to North Vancouver, I knew I was becoming part of a tight knit community. Over these past few years the North Shore community has been incredibly supportive, for that Beyond Beige and The Living Lab are so grateful. We are very proud to be a North Shore based company.
The North Shore News was excited to find out that one of their own would be speaking at IDS West. But like so many others, were shocked to discover why. If you are one of the few who are not aware, I was once a librarian. Yes, you read that right! I’m much louder than the average librarian. After years of obsessing over before and after pictures, as well as hoarding stacks of magazines under my bed, I finally made the leap.
Thank you to the North Shore News and community for supporting all of our success!
IDS West Speaker
As some of you may already know, I have been chosen to be a speaker at this year’s IDS West Event. I am incredibly excited to be speaking alongside Chad Falkenberg and Kelly Reynolds of Falken Reynolds Interiors. For all of you inspiring designers, this conversation stage is for you! From 2-3 pm on Sunday September 28th we will discuss how to make the leap into the design industry. Twelve years ago I quit my job as a librarian to start Beyond Beige Interior Design. Similarly, Kelly Reynolds left his stable job as a police officer to pursue the career of his dreams. Informative and igniting, be sure not to miss this presentation on the Gray Magazine Conversation Stage.
